During the youth festival in 1968 in Sofia, Sibylla, the Countess, is arrested. She is exiled to a remote village. There she meets Boyko. Later, they begin living together in the capital. While trying to flee abroad, Boyko is arrested. Sibylla is charged with complicity and sent to а Labour Detention Centre. She finds out that she is pregnant by Boyko.

Petar Popzlatev studied at the Sorbonne and the École nationale supérieure Louis-Lumière. His first feature film was I, the Countess, which won the Best Feature Film Award in Turin; the Grand Jury Prize in Angers; the Silver Dolphin for Direction and the Silver Dolphin for Cinematography at the Festroja in Setubal, Portugal; a FIPRESCI Award; and the award for Best Actress at the Red Cross Festival in Varna. He also directed and produced the Bulgarian-French co-productions Something in the Air and And God Came Down to See Us.
