‘I’m not insane, a psycho or an idiot, to make films for my own use. Family Relics has had screenings. I’ve come across all sorts of reactions. But I still flatter myself to say that I have not encountered indifference. If someone tells me that my films are similar to each other, monotonous, talking about the same thing, like the old band Black Sabbath, I would say that
these films, and me in between, look a bit like a church in a cemetery. This church is not like other churches – there are no weddings, no baptisms, no holidays, no diversity. The occasion is always the same. But you can’t do
without a church like this.’
