A psychiatric hospital in a former monastery. The protagonist, a middle-aged psychiatrist, has lost faith in himself and his profession. Absorbed in a conversation with the woman who left him some time ago, he fails to notice an elderly patient. During the night, the patient hangs himself from the monastery bell.
In the dead man, the psychiatrist recognises his father, believed to have disappeared without a trace during the communist terror of 1949. Step by step, he uncovers the truth about his father’s anonymous life. And with it comes the hope of living a life of integrity and dignity.
