Andrey Paounov is the scriptwriter and director of many award-winning documentaries. Georgi and the Butterflies won the 2004 Silver Wolf in Amsterdam, The Mosquito Problem and Other Stories (2007) was selected at 2007 Cannes, and The Boy Who Was a King (2011) premiered in Toronto. Walking on Water, his latest documentary about Christo, the famous Bulgarian artist, premiered at the 2018 Locarno IFF. Andrey’s first feature film, January (2021), premiered at Tallin Black Nights IFF and won the Best Director Award at Sofia Film Fest and the Golden Rose National Film Festival Special Jury Prize.
